Vitamin C in a skin care serum is even more likely to oxidize due to its acidic formulation.
When freshly manufactured, the 20% Vitamin C + E Ferulic Acid Serum will be a watery consistency and cloudy in appearance. As the serum begins to age it will slowly appear more yellow in color due to the natural oxidation process. Once it turns orange or brown it’s no longer an effective Vitamin C serum.
It’s important to differentiate between an expired product and a product that is no longer effective. Although your Vitamin C serum will lose its efficacy once oxidized, the product does not become harmful to the skin until it's expiration date, approximately one year after manufacturing. For best results, we recommend using your Vitamin C serum within 3 to 6 month of purchase, when it is fresh and most effective.
Direct heat and sunlight accelerate the degradation of the product.
Anything that can be done to decrease the exposure of L-Ascorbic Acid to air, light and heat will help to maintain its potency and efficacy. You can extend the Vitamin C serum’s shelf life by storing it somewhere cool, such as the refrigerator.
